Gone But Never Forgotten
A dog – human relationship is a special one. We love our family pets, we laugh at them and share pizza crusts with them. This bond is further strengthened when we become a team by getting involved in conformation or performance events.
In order to compete we need to train, more time together, more laughs; a stronger bond. Traveling across the countryside to attend lure coursing championships, trials, race meets and dog shows requires a lot of time together in a hotel or trailer. You console each other after big losses, you celebrate together after big wins but most importantly you become the perfect team, win or lose. You learn to rely on each other, you learn to read each other and you learn to anticipate each other’s actions. This type of bond is unbreakable but unfortunately it does come at a price and that price is your complete devotion to each other. When you lose your teammate it cuts that much deeper because you are losing a little bit of yourself as well.
Losing any dog is difficult, losing a dog that has grown to be part of the way you eat, sleep and breathe is heartbreaking, but losing such a dog years before their time just is not fair.
